One of the most important things to remember when personalizing your space is kind of a no-brainer. Use your personality.
When I built my desk, which spans the length of my shoebox-sized wall, I paid a lot of attention to how I wanted to use the space on top and what I wanted the overall look to convey. I decided to mix warm wood tones with glass elements to create a modern, woodsy feel. I then threw a giant oceanic print into the mix because I could.
I think it's important to remember that your desk, especially for students, is where you spend the majority of your time. The space needs to be cozy, useful and curated to match your personality. Good design means nothing if it isn't also serving a purpose. I took items I use every morning and turned them into focal points.
In the end, my space was and still is uniquely me. I accessorized with my personality and ignored the standard conventions of streamlined design. My desk is a little glam, a little rustic, a little boho and most importantly, functional.
