The highlights of my 2014

2014, you were good to me. Here’s a recap of my year.

Word I lived by: Focus

Classes I took: Principles of Advertising, Introduction to the History of Art 1,  Writing Mechanics, Math for Liberal Arts and Sciences, Public Relations Research, Reporting, Multimedia Reporting, International Public Relations, Public Relations Strategy, Public Relations Writing, Ethics and Professional Responsibility, and Independent Study

Money I spent: Too much

Places I went: Washington, D.C.; St. Augustine, Florida; Jacksonville, Florida;

In chronological order…

My parents moved out of my childhood home, and I moved way too much back in.

I executed community events for Alpha PRoductions’ client First Watch Café in Ocala, Florida, with the A-Team.

I continued to work in the Department of Public Relations.

I took on the role of Assistant Managing Director of Alpha PRoductions, Florida’s largest student-run public relations firm.

I spent a lot of time with my roommates.

I kayaked for the first time ever.

I ordered my first set of business cards and got my first collegiate name tag.

I served on a search committee to hire the executive director of a new advertising and public relations agency in the college: The Agency.

I met incredible friends and spent a week in the dorms for the first time ever as an RA at the Summer Journalism Institute.

I got published three times in the Independent Florida Alligator.

I moved out of my four-bedroom apartment and moved a few doors down to a three-bedroom apartment. I spilled a lot of white paint in the process. (Miss you, Jenny!)

I served on the student advisory board for The Agency.

I tried to keep my new bedroom clean, and failed. Many times.

I went with UF PRSSA to PRSSA National Conference in Washington, D.C.

I learned from experts in communications at the Innovators Series.

I hosted a Halloween party with my roommates. I was the black swan.

I was also a cat on Halloween.

I talked about Alpha PRoductions and The Agency in promotional videos.

I was a finalist in an ugly sweater contest with my twin Alpha PRoductions director, Natalia.

I accepted a position at The Agency, telling its story.

I went to two graduation receptions for friends.

I applied for my first credit card.

I went to many PRSSA and Alpha PRoductions meetings and events.

I got my first picture with Albert.

It was a great year. I took my word “Focus” and applied it to my future, involving myself more in PRSSA, Alpha PRoductions and The Agency. At times, I bit off more than I could chew, and I struggled. I can only hope I learned from these experiences and will do better this year.
